The Minority in Parliament has explained their deafening silence during the President’s State of the Nation Address on Thursday.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of Parliament, notorious for their jeers during such speeches by the president were remarkably silent during the address.

According to the Minority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu the Minority caucus stayed quiet to protect the dignity of Parliament and the Presidency.

He said “for the avoidance of doubt, it is important to state for the record that we [Minority] in this House have agreed to listen to the President’s insight. This self-imposition is to protect the dignity of the house and indeed the presidency.

The minority members who turned up in their black and red attires,  said they choose those colors to protest what they describe as the broken state of nation.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah Bonsu revealed that the minority will present its version of the state of the nation on  Wednesday March 4, 2015.

He said NPP MPs were was unimpressed by the President’s address as he made the same comments during the 2014 State of the Nation address.

“The President told us that we have been here before, last year he said the same things. We wanted to hear from the President that we were there before and we have put it behind us. Let nobody tomorrow say that the President so much mesmerized the House that we couldn’t do anything but listen to him in silence”, he stated.
