Lawyer for one of the freed alleged accomplices of Nayele Ametefe, Frank Davies has stated that the state unnecessarily prolonged the case in court even though it had no evidence.
[contextly_sidebar id=”XDrXIuGCMmFg6LTUbn8US4JniR0FWcaw”]He said he had on several occasions advised the State Attorneys’ to “short circuit” the case because they had no evidence against his client, Abiel Ashitey Armah, and five others who were charged with abatement and conspiracy.
Nayele Ametefe has been sentenced to eight years in prison in the United Kingdom for trying to traffic cocaine into that country.
Six persons were subsequently arrested in Ghana for allegedly aiding Nayele’s trip to the UK.
However an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday acquitted and discharged all six persons following a nolle proseque filed by the state prosecutors.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, the elated Frank Davies said, “You charge these poor Ghanaians with abatement and conspiracy and the one who was arrested and spotted with the narcotic drugs go to court and pleads guilty and say I am prepared to serve my time, never mentioned even a single name and the state thinks the prosecution system will allow you to prosecute those arrested here?” he asked.
Mr Davies indicated: “from the beginning I didn’t know what they were up to and I kept on saying it is in the interest of the state to short-circuit the process and do the honorable thing and get the accused persons discharged rather than put us to this.”
I feel vindicated – Alhaji Dawood
Meanwhile one of the accused, Alhaji Dawood in an interview with Citi News said he feels vindicated.
Alhaji Dawood said: “I am very happy that I’ve done nothing wrong, I helped people, this is just coincidence but I thank God almighty for seeing me through. I will be very careful next time.”
“I really thank God almighty; he has redeemed my image today. He is a faithful God. I pray my business partners will come to me, I pray they will know that I am innocent.”
