Nayele’s alleged accomplices freed

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday acquitted and discharged all six persons accused of aiding Nayale Ametefe, jailed for trafficking 12 kilogrammes of cocaine into the United Kingdom in 2014.

[contextly_sidebar id=”dshy3r7Ubi6sOKo5I3d8SoQ0c4ePaHDQ”]This was after State prosecutors filed a nolle proseque, stating their decision to discontinue the case.

The six persons including the then person in charge of the VIP lounge at the Kotoka International Airport VIP were picked up moments after news broke that Nayele transported the cocaine through the airport.

Days after their arrest the BNI with the assistance of some state security, officials took the accused through a simulation exercise at the airport to re-enact how they got the drugs out.

They were subsequently charged and placed before the courts.

The court hearing the case after several adjournments aimed at allowing the prosecution to duly investigate the matter, the state today in court announced the withdrawal of the case.

The six who were all in court today were seen visible happy when the state announced its intention to discontinue the case.

Businessman Alhaji Dawood elated

Moments after the court’s decision one of the persons who was accused of masterminding the VIP passage for Nayele, Alhaji Dawood told Citi News that he feels vindicated.

“I am very happy that I’ve done nothing wrong, I helped people, this is just coincidence but I thank God almighty for seeing me through. I will be very careful next time,” he said.

“I really thank God almighty; he has redeemed my image today. He is a faithful God. I pray my business partners will come to me, I pray they will know that I am innocent.”

For his part lawyer for the six persons, Ellis Owusu in an interview with Citi News, said he the withdrawal of the case was long overdue.

 “They don’t have the evidence and I told them that they should have thrown in the towel a long time ago,” he noted.
