An assembly member aspirants in the Sambolgo-Abokobisi electoral area in the Upper East region are rounding up their political campaign, a 46 year old blind man has withdrawn from the race citing discrimination against him.

He said the pressure from the family was because residents in the area mocked his family members with his disability.
“Your blind man is once again in district assembly contest looking for power… you have to talk to your man to step down,” the residents say to his family.
James told Citi News that some influential people also asked “why is he was wasting his resources and time to go into the assembly to campaign when abled people are there who can do the job.”
“Because of the discrimination aspect of the community members, my family is hurt; they are also pushing the whole matter saying I have to step down,” lamented.
Though he subsequently stepped down, the blind man insisted that “I am not giving up because of the the accusations but there are other personal issues, and am stepping down to gather courage to go higher than before.”
In all, three persons were aspiring for the position.
The youngest among the three, Nsor Atanga, 24 year old, bemoaned the level of discrimination meted against his contender but was confident of solving the perennial water problem facing the area if given the node.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has set March 3 for the district Assembly and Unit Committee election.
