Workers at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange project on Monday embarked on a demonstration to protest against some issues they say related to their condition of service.

They claim their salaries have not been increased since 2013, which they say is in contravention with their conditions of service.

They said the company is also giving them a meager GHC80 a month as feeding grant instead of GH¢180.

The workers also want to discontinue the arrangement where they are being employed through a consulting firm Darlin HR consult, and that they want the Brazilian company working on the project, Queiroz Galvao to employ them directly.

A trustee for the workers union, Douq N. Mohammed in an interview with Citi News, said they we will keep demonstrating until their grievances are addressed.

“When we asked them [Dalin HR Consult] to increase the salary what they say is they are subcontractors so they cannot increase it.”

“Look at the kind of work we do, it is a dangerous one but when you are sick the firm tells us to go to the hospital with our own money. We are crying for the general public to come to our aid. What is going on now is unacceptable,” he lamented.

Mr Mohammed also noted that various applications to allow them go on leave had proved futile adding that “they called us recently and told us that they are taking seven days from our leave but we objected it.”

Government through a Ghana-Brazil partnership secured a €74 million loan to redesign and build the Kwame Nkrumah Circle into a major road interchange to reduce the traffic congestion in the area.

The project is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2015.
