Some political parties have downplayed Vision of Humanity’s second annual Positive Peace Index report that ranked Ghana as the third least corrupt country in Africa.
The peace index report 2014, also indicated that improved marco economic management and enduring political stability including the successful inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama in January 2013 has cemented the country’s reputation as a matured democracy.
[contextly_sidebar id=”za7LISaSh0mOuEBJkOpetYJOqpUii68h”]However speaking to Citi News, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Sammy Awuku challenged the credibility of the report, saying : “You cannot create an institution overnight and then expect me to give that institution the needed credibility for government PR. I see more of the PR/propaganda stuff in the report and I will not give it credibility.”
The National Secretary of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Kofi Asamoah-Siaw also said though the report ranked Ghana as the third least corrupt country, government has to still do more to fight the canker.
“I don’t know the motive of this report but whatever it is we still have issues at hand,”he said.
He emphasized the need for government to step up its fight against the canker since “it leads to perdition, …unemployment, …stagnant growth”
Meanwhile the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has said government is not doing enough to fight corruption in Ghana.
The GII believes a lot more needs to be done by government in its commitment to fighting the social canker.
Speaking to Citi News, the Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative Vitus Azeem said : “we are not doing enough to curtail corruption in the country.There is a lot that we need to do which we are failing to do”
