The Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service has said it will refer the students of the St Pauls’ Senior High School in the Volta Region, who were alleged to be homosexuals to psychiatrists for help.

[contextly_sidebar id=”iE4fY1dA93E54eUuFbv11xTdRALxeUqE”]This according to the GES is to ensure that reports of students engaging in the act are not swept under the carpet.

This comes on the back of a recent riot in the St Pauls’ Senior High School which triggered by failure of the schools administration to appropriately punish alleged homosexual students.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, the Deputy Regional Director of Education Dickson Ogordor added that special committees will be set up at the school level to monitor students and weed-out those engaging in acts of homosexuality.

“The issue of sodomy and lesbianism are criminal issues and the constitution of Ghana allows for all the rights. So it is difficult for us to say somebody is a lesbian or a gay,” he said.

He explained that the committee would ensure that any homosexual student found culpable are dealt with according to the rules and regulations of the school.

He said “if that is so persistent then we will ask the parent to take their children to the psychiatrist or any psychologist for advice.”
