The head teachers who allowed some pupils to join the New Patriotic Party (NPP) demonstration last Wednesday have been cautioned by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

[contextly_sidebar id=”azLFZwVQMMmYGZJu858R79TZfP4jFIJA”]This was revealed by a Deputy Education Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Accra based Radio Gold on Saturday.

According to the Minister, the GES is still “looking into the matter so that full disciplinary action will be carried out,” after admitting guilt.

Some of the pupils who joined the demonstration told Citi News’ Pearl Akanya Ofori that “We are joining because we don’t have light.”

Another said “ We need light so that we can learn.”

The four head teachers are Ernestina Ofori Atta of Liberty Avenue 1&4 primary; Christiana Hanson Nortey, Mantse Tackie 1 primary; Lucy Kanyaguay Adego of the Ernest Brew Memorial Basic School and Robert Amankra, Liberty Avenue 3 primary.

Meanwhile the four have also written an apology letter to the GES and asked for forgiveness.

Parts of the letter read: “”This unfortunate situation occurred when the pupils and students were on break. We promise that next time if there is any such demonstrators we will ensure that the children are kept in their classrooms.”

Thousands of New Patriotic Party members and some Ghanaians poured out onto the streets to protest against government over the reeling effects of current energy crisis and the economic challenges in the country.
