Lufthansa and Help Alliance celebrated ten years of cooperation in supporting the Kinder Paradise School, bringing the airline’s local management and flight staff to mark the milestone event in Prampram, Ghana.

“Serving Ghana as good corporate citizens for almost five decades, it is a privilege for Lufthansa, together with our crews, to support and fund projects in Ghana such as the Kinder Paradise School, which we now celebrate ten years of successful cooperation,” said Kevin Markette, Lufthansa General Manager in Ghana at a special ceremony celebrating the partnership.

Joining Markette at the event was the crew of Lufthansa’s flight to Accra, whose members are all involved in fundraising for Kinder Paradise, a non-profit institution caring for children and youth who used to live on the streets or in perilous situations. In addition, to its Prampram school, Kinder Paradise runs a day-care center for street children in downtown Accra. The facilities are run by a 40 strong team of Ghanaian teachers, care takers and auxiliary staff dedicated to securing the future of hundreds of children.

The connection with Lufthansa commenced in 2005, even before Iris Sandoff, a Lufthansa Purser met Silke Roesner, founder of the Kinder Paradise and bearer of the German Federal Cross of Merit. The organization and its mission touched the hearts of Lufthansa’s local staff in Accra and the airline’s crew members.

“We are overjoyed to take part in this anniversary celebration marking the accomplishments of these children and extremely proud at Lufthansa staff’s decade long involvement in this unique project, “Sandoff said in front of over 200 Kinder Paradise children and its Ghanaian staff.

Since 2006 and with Sandhoff’s involvement, Help Alliance, the aid organization founded by Lufthansa staff, has been funding  Kinder Paradise supporting the building of a Kindergarten in Prampram, a village one hour from the Ghanaian, capital, as well as a computer lab and outdoor facilities such as a playground and sports fields. In addition, Help Alliance has funded the acquisition of transport vehicles for the organization’s facilities.

On top of this, the Help Alliance has assisted in the past years with the annual budget of Kinder Paradise, ensuring that the good work of Silke Roesner and her staff in Accra can be continued.

“Lufthansa Staff like Iris Sandhoff  have devoted their time and efforts, acting as project managers and fund raising for Kinder Paradise. One example is the 2,500 Euro, raised by the Lufthansa flight attendants last year for this specific project,” noted Markette.

The check for 2,500 Euro were presented during the festivities as was a donation of 2,800 Euros raised during a sales conference of Lufthansa managers from Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
