violenceThe Chief Executive Officer of the Small Arms Commission, Mr. Jones Akplor has emphasized the need for Ghana to strengthen its institutions to deal with the wave of violence in the country.

According to him, the Police Service in the country should be equipped to find perpetrators of violent acts and ensure their prosecution.

“Restore confidence in the Police Service such that when perpetrators are found, they are tried, prosecuted and duly punished,” he emphasized.

The country has recorded several killings recently, including the murder of Nana Kwaku Dwoma Ankoana, chief of Seikwa in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region, who was shot; Rosemond Nyampong, a 32-year-old Stanbic bank worker, who was killed at Baatsonaa in Accra; Nii Ayittey Noryatse, chief of Joma, near Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region; and Fennec Okyere, manager of musician Kwaw Kesse, who was shot dead at his Spintex Road residence.

Speaking on the issue on Eyewitness News, Mr. Akplor stated that there should collaboration among key stakeholders to deal with the problem.

The fact that the society is stressed should not lead us to the kind of violence we see. We need to find a solution to this problem,” he stated.
