The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has rejected media reports suggesting that there is shortage of oxygen at the facility.

[contextly_sidebar id=”AXvaURIp0SA5Vk8HZoSOH6jqpUx5OnLp”]The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital, Kwame Frimpong said the facility’s oxygen plant is working fine, and that it thrives on oxygen provided from a private company.

“I will like to place on record that there’s no shortage of oxygen at the hospital. The hospital has an oxygen plant, admittedly it is very old and is therefore not able to meet our daily needs as in the past.”

Mr. Frimpong emphasized that management has entered into an agreement with a private company that provides the 350cubic metres of oxygen out of the 735cubic metres which is needed daily, 384 cubic metres is produced by the hospital’s oxygen plant.

“We would have wished that we would be in the position to have all our oxygen needs produced in house, unfortunately because our oxygen plant is about 16yrs, it has virtually eached a point where we have to decommission it…until we get the new plant we have to continue to rely on external sources in order to get the full compliment of oxygen needed”.

Mr. Kwame Frimpong assured the public of continuous quality patient care.

“Our oxygen plant has not broken down, it is working at full capacity, it is inadequate to meet our daily needs…so we will like to assure the public that we have not experienced any shortage in the supply of oxygen and that patient care have not compromised as a result of any shortage of that product.”
