The Federation of the Senior Staff Association of the College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana and the Teachers and Education Workers Union at the University of Ghana Medical School at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have embarked on an indefinite strike to compel management of the university to pay their premium allowances.

[contextly_sidebar id=”E4x9YrnhNW03jemw2sjfL6vnd4uVNGoV”]According to the groups, the management of the university has failed to heed to the directives of the Fair Wages and Salary Commission to pay them their allowances since 2010.

Addressing the media, the president of the group, Haruna Rafique stated that their appeals to the management of the University of Ghana to make the necessary payments have not yielded positive results, hence their action.

“Management did not pay heed to our request while others were enjoying. Even people who were receiving their allowances do not receive it again. So that becomes a big problem for the union to handle,” he stated.

Speaking to Citi News, the Teachers and Education Workers Union at the University of Ghana Medical School at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have also declared an indefinite strike due to the failure of the management of the school to pay their allowances.

Chairman of the union Dominic Gyamfi told Citi News, the group will only resume work if their allowances are paid.

“Not until the required money is paid we are not going to give them a peace of mind. The doctors who are going to graduate this year are about starting their exam and if this strike continues it will affect the students,”he said.
