Final Year Students at various stages of the education ladder were compelled to travel to Tamale for their last exams.
But the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani has told Citi News, WAEC has reconsidered its decision.
“It is recalled that two years ago we had that problem and the following year Yendi was blacklisted: this came to my notice and I approached WAEC and I was told we had to observe some sanctions for almost either seven or eleven years: but because of the importance I attach to education I contacted all authorities within the WAEC and it was agreed that we organized a workshop to sensitize the people of this area.”
Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani exclusively spoke to Citi News during inspection of school projects executed with share of the MP’s common fund.
According to him, final year students who will write their exams for 2015 will do so at the Yendi examination centre.
He however admitted that conditionalities were attached to the restoration.
“There were other conditions attached to it and we did all and fortunately it is my pleasure to announce to the people of Yendi and the whole country that the examination centre has been restored so this year 2015 private exams WAEC will be conducted in Yendi and Yendi centre is now reestablished and they will be writing exams in Yendi.”
As an MP, he said education remained his major priority for which reason enough resources will be committed into that sector.
“It is my intention to make Yendi one of the best districts or municipalities in the country and education is one of the very important things I have always attached to my work.”
Alhaji Habib Tijani said he had so far built 15 additional classroom blocks in the Yendi Municipality.
“Last year we gave out as much as GHC350, 000.00 to tertiary students and in addition we have been able to put up about 15 3No classrooms and pavilions in about 15 communities: for instance one at Nebong, Yimahigu, Gundogu, Gulkpegu, Sakpegu, Kpanjamba and the rest.”
