Just a day after the opposition NPP announced plans to lead thousands of Ghanaians onto the streets on February 18, 2015 to protest the crippling power crisis facing the country, the National Democratic Party (NDP) has announced its support for the campaign.
The Party issued a statement in Accra on Wednesday claiming the power problems are as a result of what it called “obvious bankruptcy” as a logical effect of systemic looting of the nation’s resources by public officials.

The party in response to the energy crisis noted that “the NDP considers it long overdue for a mass demonstration in protest of deception of Ghanaians on the unparalleled economic disaster of ‘dumsor’ plaguing the nation”
The party noted that it is very obvious that the Mahama led administration thrives on “deception contrivance” adding that it[government] shall end up repeating same mistakes it committed in the past.
“In the beginning it was the West African gas pipe damage and it rolled to many more episodes of gas supply to fuel thermal plants which never actualized. By the many thermal plants and the unprecedented rock-bottom world fuel price, any government with commitment to national productivity cares for Ghanaian will have recourse to firing up thermal plants for electricity generation.”
It said the NDP therefore sees the load shedding exercise as the effect of insufficient leadership that has consequently led Ghanaians into bankruptcy in the generation of electricity.
Speaking to Citi News’ Richard Dela Sky, the Communications Director of the party, Eric Owusu Bempah also said the upcoming demonstration is a clarion call on government to resolve the power challenges.
“It is part of our democratic right so that the government will sit up and do the right thing and to be responsible.”
“When you read the constitution of republic of Ghana it is clear that he will protect the interest of Ghana. Right now every Ghanaian is in disarray about the energy crisis and Ghanaians must rise up and make sure we defend what belongs to us,”he added.
