14 districts in the Northern Region do not have Police stations and the Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah has said the situation is hampering effective Policing in a rather volatile region.
The affected districts include Tolon, Sagnarigu, Kumbungu and Mamprugu Mogdo in the overseas area.
[contextly_sidebar id=”CbEfPTT2XYob4yLIMcgUi5lbDXiXp87g”]“I must say that out of the 26 political districts we serve, 14 do not have district Police headquarters, some do not have police stations at all,” DCOP Yeboah lamented.
“It affects our Policing activities in the region: the citizens there do not have access to our services and then it makes our response time very bad: if something happens at Bunkprugu we have a Police station there but because of the numbers and because of the terrain. it is very difficult.”
DCOP Ken Yeboah brought this to the fore at a meeting with the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Julius Debrah who was in the region for a five day working visit.
The Northern Regional Police Commander also decried the alarming rate of murder cases recorded in the region.
“Crime trend in the region is not as high as it used to be but the major crime is murder and this is caused by the conflicts.”
He said despite the myriad of challenges, his men will continue to protect lives and property.
According to DCOP Ken Yeboah, destruction of farmlands by the cattle of Fulani herdsmen were also on the rise in the region.
