Veteran Ivorian defender Kolo Toure believes the current crop of Black Stars players are capable of breaking Ghana’s 33 year wait for an Afcon title.

Goalkeeper Boubacar Barry was the hero on the night of the 2015 Afcon final after he saved and scored the spot kicks that handed Ivory Coast a 9-8 penalty victory.

Momentum was tilted heavily in favour of Ghana who looked like they would run out winners when both Wilfried Bony and Junior Tallo missed their spot kicks but misses from man of the match Afriyie Acquah and Frank Acheampong ensured the sides were back on level terms.

According to the Liverpool player, Ghana have a young squad who will have many opportunities to make up for the painful defeat.

“Our generation has been looking for this trophy and we have missed out on it twice in the final. “I think for Ghana it’s the second one as well.

Maybe the next one will be better for them because they have really good players and they are also very young,” he revealed when asked by a reporter on what he made of the Black Stars second defeat on penalties to his country.

The Ghanaian team dominated the individual awards categories as Andre Ayew was awarded top scorer at the competition with 3 goals to his name as Evertons Christian Atsu picked up the player of the tournament as well as goal of the tournament.

Striker Kwesi Appiah of Cambridge United picked of the Fair Play Award.
