SIM Box fraud: Former GREDA boss case adjourned to Feb. 10

An Accra Central Magistrate Court has set February 10, to rule on a bail application filed by lawyers of former boss of the Ghana Real Estates Developers Association(GREDA), Alexander Tweneboah.

[contextly_sidebar id=”SkOa7nsubGUCqW57QJjtKLwwOLGflq9J”]Mr. Tweneboah was arrested in January by the Police for allegedly engaging in SIM Box fraud.

He has however pleaded not guilty to counts of providing electronic equipment without license and possessing illegal devices with intent to commit crime.

A joint task force which included the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on January 15, arrested six persons for allegedly being involved in SIM boxing.

The activities of the alleged fraudsters are said to have cost the nation more than GH¢100 million.

The Police say  the task force seized one SIM box with a 64-slot SIM server, 4G Internet modem, 1 laptop computer and mini antenna were intercepted from the suspects at their residence at the Batsona, Manet area.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication, Kwaku Sakyi Addo has ruled out the involvement of the telcos in the incident.

SIM boxing takes place when individuals or organizations illegally terminate a voice call  of a  registered licensed network operators, usually at lower cost than the approved rates.
