From February 28 to March 7, 2015, filmmakers and industry players around Africa would converge on Ivory Coast for the 24th edition of the Pan-African Cinema and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACI).
Ghana Akosua Adoma Owusu and the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) have been shortlisted among 90 films, institutions and personalities to be awarded.
Akosua Adoma’s ‘Kwaku Ananse’ is shortlisted for the short film category while the NAFTI is also up for two awards iin the Cinema Schools category.
Kwaku Ananse was commissioned by Focus Features, as part of their prestigious Africa First Award Program, and supported by the Sarah Jacobson Grant, Art Matters grant, and a well-received IndieGogo Campaign. The short film is a re-telling of the classic West African fable with a semi-autobiographical twist featuring Ghana’s legendary palm wine musician, Koo Nimo as Kwaku Ananse.
The theme for the 24th FESPACO film festival is ‘African Cinema: Production and Distribution in the Digital Era’ and the jury is headed by Kwaw Ansah, the legendary Ghanaian filmmaker.
Each trophy won comes with a cash reward of 20 million FCFA.
