Nigeria’s council of state has decided to carry on with its presidential elections on February 14, 2015.
Nigeria’s national security advisor, Sambo Dasuki had earlier called for a postponement of the poll to ensure the voter card distribution is successfully completed since the nation will be using biometric cards.
Calls for a delay in the country’s elections was influenced by mounting attacks from the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.

The council of state, comprising ex-leaders, elections officials , presidential candidates and other key stakeholders met in the capital, Abuja, on Thursday to discuss the election.
Reports however indicate that no decision was taken to change the date.
APC campaign media head Malam Garba Shehu said a delay would have caused a crisis and “made Nigeria the laughing stock of the civilised world”, in a statement seen by Reuters.
The BBC indicated that elections will not be conducted in Boko Haram-controlled areas.
Some 69 million Nigerians out of a total population of 177 million are eligible to vote.
