
President John Dramani Mahama has told the chiefs and people of Donkokrom in the Afram Plains that government has acquired a number of fast water boats and two ferries for use on the Volta Lake by the surrounding communities.
Addressing a gathering in the Afram Plains area, President Mahama said his government will continue to open up the area by expanding the transport network in the Eastern region.
‘’From Amankwakrom to Kpando the fast water boat will cart people and their goods from one town to another; the boat will take 50 people at a go,’’ he said.
According to him the Volta Lake Transport will be responsible for the maintenance of the boats. The President further stated that the fast water boats will also help prevent accidents and loss of life.
He inspected projects and inaugurated a new maternity ward for the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital as well.
President John Mahama is on a two-day working visit to the Eastern region. The President on Tuesday also interacted with students, staff and faculty of the Koforidua Polytechnic. He also inspected the progress of work on some ongoing projects in the Region.
