The Ashanti Regional Police command have arrested eight (8) armed men who tried to rob two Chinese miners who were transporting their gold and money from a mining site to Kumasi.

The suspects are being processed for court on the charge of preparation to commit crime.
At a press briefing on Wednesday at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, the Regional Crime officer, Chief Superintendent Peter Baba narrated that on February 2, 2015 at about 12:00pm, Police upon intelligence arrested suspects Godfred Adu aka Nana Yaw, Kwaku Morszo, Emmanuel Okyere aka Yaw Ketewa aka Pusher, Akwasi Ansah and Assan kwadwo who confessed that they were on an operation to rob the two Chinese men.
The suspects named Michael Kwabena Gyamfi, Agyemang Boadi and Kwame Boateng as their accomplices.
One of the suspects, Godfred Adu led Police to arrest the said accomplices on board taxi with registration number, AW 1535-12 and retrieved two pump action guns, eight pieces of AAA cartridges, a knife and talisman from them.
Peter Baba said “A search conducted in the room of suspect Agyeman Boadi at Bidiem-Obuasi revealed one locally made pistol and 5 cartridges.”
One standing fan, DVD player, amplifier, desktop computer, pendrive, five AAA cartridges and assorted mobile phones all suspected to be stolen properties were also retrieved from his room.
