Black Stars coach Avram Grant is asking the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hand a lengthy ban to Guinean goalkeeper Nady Yattara for his foul on Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan in the 2015 AFCON quarter final.

[contextly_sidebar id=”uThSLSFMj4fvDeLTXULW9Pu7pqDKVtjO”]Yattara got sent off by Referee Janny Sikwazwe for the incident but Grant has demanded for a more severe punishment for the Guinean. ”

I think what the goalkeeper did was not respectful to football. I think he should be banned for life. He should not play football because he tried to hurt Gyan.

He did the foul deliberately on the stomach area.

When the result was 3-0 and we were in the last minute, the foul showed disrespect to football.

I do not think he should play football again because when you try to take other players out of the game, people need to think about it.”

He continued: “This is a bad tackle and it was done deliberately to finish the other player’s career or to take him out.

I saw it in the game but I saw it again in the replay.”

Grant compared the foul to the one German goalkeeper Harold “Toni” Schumacher made on French midfielder Patrick Battison in the 1982 World Cup and concluded that Yattara’s foul was “worse”.

Ghana will wait for scans to determine if Gyan will be available for the semi-final against Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
