10 ways Facebook has ruined your life

Facebook has ruined your life. You might think it’s this awesome, free resource to keep you connected to your friends and family, but it’s slowly breaking you.

We have a very important list of 10 ways the social networking site has crept up on you, killed your confidence and joy, and stolen small pleasures.

Take a look through our reasons below. Did we skip a way in which Facebook has changed your life for the worse? Share it in the comments.

1. No one sends you birthday cards anymore.

fbday

How many actual, physical birthday cards did you get on your last special day? Even those aging relatives you used to rely on to hit you up with a Hallmark card every year — they’re now on Facebook, too.

2. You hear important news after everyone else.

fbbaby

Your friend is expecting. Your cousin just got engaged. Your college roommate has been headhunted into an amazing new job. When was the last time you got to celebrate this kind of news face-to-face? In the digital age, you find out on Facebook, after 73 strangers have already “Liked” and commented.

3. You have major lifestyle envy.

fbenvy

Other people have nicer homes, cuter pets, cooler vacations, better behaved kids and more awesome friends than you. The social network really rubs your nose in the fact that some of your Facebook friends enjoy a lifestyle way better than you could even dream of.

4. All films, books and TV shows are ruined for you.

fbspoilers

You have to watch TV shows as they’re broadcast, go see films the weekend they come out and get your favorite author’s books on pre-order. Otherwise, spoiler alert!

How many “he was dead the whole time” moments has Facebook given you?

5. It’s ruined your diet.

Nothing messes with your resolve quite like seeing posts from friends digging into treats. Why should you deny yourself when others are gorging on the good stuff, right?

6. You realize how boring some of your old friends are.

fbboring

That strong, silent type you had a crush on in senior year? That work colleague you thought was really suave? Fake Facebook intimacy exposes the mundanity of other people’s lives.

7. You realize how boring you are.

fbnolike

How the did your post get zero “Likes”? It can devastate you when something you thought was really witty or cute gets ignored by the Facebook masses. Telling yourself it’s some algorithm glitch and no one actually saw it doesn’t help you every time.

8. You suffer from serious cases of FOMO.

When you see friends tagged in other people’s posts, you wonder why you are missing out. How come they’re all out together? Why didn’t they invite you? Who arranged it? Did they deliberately snub you?

9. Facebook’s targeted ads have destroyed your confidence.

You need to exercise, lose weight, get whiter teeth and better hair, and stop being single and lonely. Facebook ads can really kick you in the nuts, especially if you’re already feeling a bit down.

10. It sucks time.

fbtime

If the average American Facebook user spends 40 minutes per day on the site, that’s a little over 10 collective days per year you spend on the social networking site. That’s time you can’t ever get back.

Imagine how many books you could read, new skills you could master, interesting conversations you could have IRL. But nope. It’s gone, sucked into the Facebook vortex. Thanks, Zuck.
