The Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) Ashanti Regional branch has denied formally sanctioning a boycott of events organized by the Manhyia Palace.
[contextly_sidebar id=”73hARlaUaXlZXBTdh4sFoiSTn06AE915″]Some media outlets on Saturday reported that the GJA in the Ashanti Region had decided to boycott all events organized by the Manhyia Palace following the alleged manhandling of some of its members.
But in an interview with Citi News, the Regional Chairman of the GJA, Listowel Yesu Bukarson dismissed the reports saying, “officially, the GJA has not met; we have not taken any decision.”
According to the Association, the said decision was taken by some journalists who were allegedly manhandled by some persons at Manhyia palace on Saturday.
Yesu Bukarson said: “They [affected journalists] have indicated that they would push further to ensure that we blacklist the palace that is a decision that was taken by colleagues of ours who were there yesterday.”
The aggrieved journalists who were covering the 80th anniversary of the Ashanti Confederacy on Saturday lamented over the consistent attacks on them anytime they visited the palace.
The journalists are pointing accusing fingers at some Linguists and Sub Chiefs for making their work difficult.
Listowel Yesu Bukarson admitted he was not present at the function but, “a good number of our colleagues who briefed me yesterday they expressed some levels of disgust as to what they thought was some unfair treatment from some people at the palace.”
“We want to see how together, we can resolve the subject matter going forward,” he added.
