Oil and Gas pressure group, Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas says it will soon head to court to seek interpretation into the criteria for sharing Ghana’s oil revenue.

[contextly_sidebar id=”hZ7UXsFQU0vZqR28rcU5xm6E0yL3citP”]The group’s decision follows a demand made by chiefs in the Western Region requesting for a 10 percent share of the oil revenue.

The Platform says the practice if not checked will push other Regions to also demand a percentage in any resource found in their Region.

But speaking to Citi News, Chairman of the Platform, Dr. Steve Manteaw said the practice needs some legal interpretation, adding that “we are gathering the necessary documents and once they are set, we will actually head for the court and get a constitutional interpretation.”

“If the court declares that the practice is not actually in tune with the constitution then we will move to the next level where we will actually push for a legislation which will set out the criteria for the practice,” he added.

In a related development, some chiefs in the Western Region are threatening to resist any attempt by chiefs in the Volta Region who may demand some a percentage of oil revenue should oil be found in the Volta Basin.
