Queenmother, 71 others arrested over chieftaincy dispute in Senchi

The Eastern Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Formed Police Unit from Accra, has arrested 72 persons in connection with a chieftaincy dispute and rioting at Senchi in the Asuogyaman District.

They have been charged with provocation of riot and unlawful assembly at Senchi.

[contextly_sidebar id=”VDfmNyix9FMcMg3d6YocI5TmUIsyFNyo”]Among those arrested include the Queenmother of Senkyi, Nana Afia Poakwa II and his son, Odikro of Senkyi Amanfrom, Odikro Mintah.

Briefing the media ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Public Relations Officer of the Regional Police Command said the suspects were arrested in a dawn swoop on Thursday.

ASP Nketia-Yeboah said, the ages of the suspects ranged from 18 to 34 years and they are mostly from Chorkor, Korle Gorno, Accra Newtown, Dansoman and other suburbs of Greater Accra Region.

He said, currently 43 of the suspects have been brought to the Regional Police Command for screening and interrogation, while the rest are at Akosombo waiting to be transferred to Koforidua.

ASP Nketia-Yeboah indicated that, there has been a persistent chieftaincy dispute at Senchi last week, there was an incident where, Odikro Mintah was reported to be assaulted and dragged on the streets, which was reported to the police.

He said the case is under investigation.

ASP Nketia-Yeboah, said, the suspects involved in the case would be arraigned.
