Fuel TankerPolice in the Kasena-Nankana west district of the Upper East region have intensified their operations to clump down on the activities of fuel smugglers in Paga.

Citi News gathered that fuel smuggling through the Paga border into neighboring Burkina Faso had heightened.

According to reports, majority of the youth in the area also abandoned school for the trade.

The Navrongo District Police Commander, ASP Abdul Latif Mbowura bemoaned the situation but said a task force had been established to curtail the menace.

“Paga as you are aware is a border area and for some time now we have experienced the increase of fuel smuggling; so what we did was that the two district assemblies came together to form a task force to fight against the smuggling.”

He added, “For now day in day out we have a team that goes round to check and monitor the activities of the smugglers.”

ASP Mbowura gave the assurance that the situation will be brought under control.
