The Coalition of Concerned Teachers is demanding the dismissal of Education Minister, Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang.

Making a case for her removal, the president of the group, Ernest Opoku told Citi News, the Ministry of Education has been unable to adequately provide the necessary academic materials to the various public schools across the country.

According to him, over 20,000 teachers have not been paid despite working for over two years.

“The whole of 2014, over 12,000 were without salaries and as I speak to you, more than 20,000 teachers have been teaching for two years without salaries,” he said.

He claimed that ever since this Minister took over, “all issues that will really help effective teaching and learning has become a problem.”

He said throughout the year 2014, the budgetary allocation for the Ghana Education Service (GES) which were released was far below 20 percent.

This, Mr. Opoku claimed, forced District Directors of Education to rely on secondary schools for A4 sheets.

He added that under the leadership of Prof. Opoku Agyemang, the teacher trainee allowance has been scrapped while teachers are working for over two years without the payment of salaries.

“You cannot do the work if you don’t have the necessary logistics and so I see the Minister as very incompetent and we are appealing to President Mahama to remove the Minister,” he argued.
