African Union Chief, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has admonished African leaders to join forces to tackle the Boko Haram threat in Nigeria.

According to her, the spillover operations of the Islamist Militant group in Cameroun and Chad are indications that the no African state is safe.

[contextly_sidebar id=”l6R6QVoPdqumHK0uDrbmdGAgNBd2pUty”]Ms Dlamini-Zuma sounded this caution in her address to African Foreign Ministers at the AU headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

ECOWAS chairman, President John Mahama has said Boko Haram is major threat to the peace and security of countries in the West African sub-region.

“Boko Haram is a regional threat, no country in  West Africa can say that it is too far away to be affected…all of us in the sub region are threatened by Boko Haram and indeed on the whole continent. We cannot leave the individual countries alone to deal with it,” Mahama said.

President Mahama is therefore proposing the setting up of a multi-national force to fight Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.
Boko Haram has been attacking residents in north-eastern Nigeria since 2009 with the sole aim of creating an Islamic state.
They have so far claimed over 3,000 lives and rendered many citizens homeless.

Upon a request by ECOWAS, the AU has agreed to include the activities of Boko Haram and al-Shabab on the agenda in the Union’s upcoming summit on Friday.

The summit was originally scheduled to discuss women empowerment and development but the intensity of the operations of Boko Haram has changed the agenda of the summit.
