A man believed to be the former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Real Estates Developers Association(GREDA), Dr. Alexander Tweneboah has been arrested for sim box fraud.
Dr. Alexander Tweneboah and some other suspects were paraded at the Police Headquarters on Monday with their equipment.
Reports indicate that on January 15,2015, the task force seized one sim box with a 64-slot sim server, 4G Internet modem, 1 laptop computer and mini antennas from a residence at Batsona, Manet area.
Three persons namely, Emmanuel Kofi Essilfie, Edmond Essilfie and Kwaku Aapiah were arrested but they denied knowledge of the gadgets and mentioned Alexander Tweneboah, owner of the house as the owner of the equipment.
Alexander was subsequently traced and arrested after he claimed ownership of the equipment and admitted using them to terminate international calls illegally.
He was arrested in an anti-fraud collaboration between the National Communications Authority (NCA), telecommunication service providers in Ghana and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Meanwhile the Director General of the CID, DCOP Prosper Ablorh has said the nation has lost more than one hundred million as a result of the practice.
He said about 21,232 SIM cards were recovered from one operator.
Sim box fraud takes place when individuals or organizations illegally terminate a voice call of a registered licensed network operators, usually at lower cost than the approved rates.
