Ghana will join other countries worldwide for the commemoration of the International Holocaust Memorial day.

A UN General Assembly Resolution in 2005 designated January 27 as an annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust –  the systematic murder by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany of six million Jews in Europe and North Africa as well as millions of other marginalized groups.

As part of activities to mark the Holocaust Day, the U.N. Information Center together with the Israeli Embassy and the German Embassy will host Dr. Rob Rozett from the Yad va Shem Holocaust Memorial Museum in Israel on a two day visit in Ghana.

The Yad va Shem Holocaust Memorial Museum is the world center for documentation, research, education and commemoration of the Holocaust.

The events to mark the International Holocaust Memorial day in Ghana will include a lecture by Dr. Rozett at the Department of Political Science and History of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) headed by Dr. Baah Amoako on the 26th of January.

During the event, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Israeli Embassy, Mr. Yohav Katz, adderall will present the library of the university with a package of books and resources on the holocaust. By doing so, the Embassy wishes to contribute to the research efforts in KNUST, in the field of the Humanities.

On January 27th a main memorial event will be held at the Kofi Annan International Centre for Peace Keeping Training Centre, where The Minister of Education, Honorable Professor Jane Nana Opoku – Agyeman will deliver a message on behalf of the Government of Ghana as the Special Guest of Honor.

The event will include a message by the UN Secretary General, recorded specially for the event and Dr. Rozett will deliver a lecture on the topic; “The Holocaust: the unprecedented and the ordinary”.

In order to interact with the younger generation, Dr. Rob Rozett will also address a seminar on International Holocaust Memorial Day for History students of Accra Academy School in the Greater Accra Region as well as meet with students and members of the Lincoln Community School’s Human Rights Club before he leaves the shores of Ghana for similar activities in Ethiopia.
