Paul Pogba scored one goal and created another as Serie A leaders Juventus beat Chievo to stay ahead of Roma.

The Frenchman, who has netted in each of his last four games, opened the scoring with a stunning shot from the edge of the box on the hour mark.

The reported Real Madrid target then saw his clever trap and volley saved before Stephan Lichtsteiner poked home.

The win moves the champions seven points ahead of second-placed Roma, who drew 1-1 at Fiorentina on Sunday.

Pogba’s performances have become increasingly influential this season with manager Massimiliano Allegri touting the former Manchester United player as a potential future world player of the year.

Chievo remain in the relegation zone and will be without defender Nicolas Frey for the foreseeable future after he was stretchered off wearing a neck brace following a clash of heads with Patrice Evra.

Elsewhere, a stoppage-time header from Emiliano Moretti gave Torino their first win at Inter Milan since 1988, leaving the ninth-placed Nerazzurri seven points off the European places.

New signing Samuel Eto’o was in attendance as his Sampdoria team-mates played out a 1-1 draw with Palermo to remain fourth and outside of the Champions League places on goal difference.

A late strike from substitute Alejandro Rodriguez helped Cesena beat Parma 2-1 in a relegation battle and halt an 18-match winless run for the visitors in Serie A.

Javier Saviola’s second-half strike gave Hellas Verona a 1-0 win over Atalanta .
