The Concerned NPP Youth in the North have described the outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu as a threat to the party’s victory in the 2016 general elections.

The group’s spokesperson, Haruna Eliasu at a news conference in Tamale expressed fears that Bugri Naabu’s actions and utterances will sabotage the hard work of the NPP.

[contextly_sidebar id=”L9dWjyoALRuqCDmnvj9CnWi8UIm6rpov”]Haruna Eliasu made reference to a recently leaked tape on which Daniel Bugri Naabu was reported to have said the NPP 2016 Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo does not trust the party’s national Chairman, Paul Afoko and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Bugri Naabu is reported to have further alleged that Nana Addo was holding secret meetings to oust Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong as national Chairman and General Secretary respectively.

The Northern Regional NPP Chairman on the same leaked tape asserted that Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong were in bed with Ibrahim Mahama, younger brother of President John Dramani Mahama.

He claimed on the tape, Nana Addo at a secret meeting disclosed his intention to form a parallel authority within the NPP top hierarchy to manage his campaign team in 2016.

It is against this backdrop that the Concerned NPP Youth in the North has admonished the NPP’s National Steering Committee to sanction Daniel Bugri Naabu over his “unsavoury” remarks in the media.

The group has also challenged the NPP’s 2016 Presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo to disassociate himself from Daniel Bugri Naabu’s allegations leveled against Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

“We are by this statement calling on our party’s flagbearer and next President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to disassociate himself from the comments of Bugri Naabu as it doesn’t depict the image Nana Addo stood for in his over four decades in active politics.”

Haruna Eliasu opined that Nana Addo’s continuous silence on Daniel Bugri Naabu’s allegations will amount to his [Nana Addo’s] endorsement of the NPP Northern Regional Chairman’s “divisive” comments.

“Nana Addo has carved an image as a unifier and his pronouncements after the famous supreme court declarations is a case study: Nana Addo is known for extending olive branches to his opponents after every internal contests in the party and the all hands on deck tour after the 2010 internal contest is still fresh on our minds: the contents on the tape are so divisive and doesn’t smacks of a party that is poised for victory in 2016 and Nana Addo our next President must disassociate himself from it.”

Haruna Eliasu further chided some of the NPP national executives over their silence on the said Bugri Naabu leaked tape.

“We have noted with regret the long silence of some national executives whose names have been mentioned in the tape which gives credence to the fact that indeed such divisions are existent in the party which would not inure to its ultimate aim of winning power in 2016.”

He added, “As concerned youth of the party, we feel all is not well for the party at the top and it may trickle down to the grassroots if measures are not immediately taken to curtail seeming growing divisions at the top.”

Haruna Eliasu asked, “Why would factions if any still exist when the sole interest of our dear NPP is to win power and liberate Ghanaians from the shackles of poverty and incompetent government?”

He gave the party’s National Steering Committee one week ultimatum to investigate the said Daniel Bugri Naabu leaked tape and appropriately sanction him.

“If the leadership is comfortable being in opposition we the youth are fed up with President John Dramani Mahama’s government because “the kitchen is hot” and we can no longer contain the humiliation and suffering.”
