The Ghana Tourism Authority has revealed that it will begin a nationwide enforcement exercise to close down all illegal, unregistered and unlicensed tourism enterprises.
These include hotels, restaurants, chop bars, drinking bars, car rentals, etc.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Prince Boakye-Boateng said this is necessary to safe guard Ghana’s tourism image.

“In the midst of all the Ebola scare about West Africa and lumping up together as West Africa, Ghana has been indentified as one of the top most destinations to visit in the year 2015. For this to yield the positive results, we need to ensure that standards are enforced,”he added.
The Colombian Ambassador to Ghana Claudia Jurbay earlier bemoaned the under-utilization of Ghana’s eco-tourism spots when she paid a visit to the Mole National Park in the West Gonja District.
Her Excellency Claudia Jurbay told Citi News that Ghana’s government could rake enough revenue from the tourism sector to develop other sectors of the economy if well utilized.
The decision to close down illegal enterprises comes months after the Authority clamped down on some restaurants operating under unhygienic conditions.
The Authority, for instance, slapped sanctions on the Dynasty Chinese Restaurant for operating under unhygienic conditions
