Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG), is asking government to  investigate the demolition of the toll booth at the Okplongo entrance of the University of Ghana.

A press statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, noted that “VCG implores government to cause an investigation into the matter and apply sanctions as necessary”

The statement also asked government to take urgent steps to restore confidence in security and safety of life and property at all the universities in the country.

“By so doing the public would be assured of the conducive environment required for teaching and learning at our institutions of higher learning,” the statement added.

The Vice Chancellors condemned the action by the National Security Coordinator, Gbevlo Lartey saying, “VCG takes exception to the conduct of the National Security Coordinator, Gbevlo Lartey since his actions compromised the security and safety of the University employees, students and, property.”

VCG in that regard emphasized the need to deal with matters of the University of Ghana with great care and circumspection since Universities exist as global centres of excellence for higher education and regional development.

The group pledged its readiness to discuss with government roles the universities might play in seeking solutions to the challenges facing the educational institutions in Ghana.

The VCG is a group made up of Vice Chancellors from Universities across the country.
