Cameroon’s Defence Ministry has announced that about 20 out of the 80 persons abducted by Boko Haram militants over the weekend have been released.
The Ministry says the hostages were set free after Cameroonian soldiers chased the attackers who were heading back to Nigeria after the attack.
This abduction is considered one of the biggest abductions which have been carried out by Boko Haram outside Nigeria.
The group according to the BBC, have been sending out threats to neighbouring Cameroon and Chad after they attacked and seized control of towns and villages in north-east Nigeria.
The 80 Cameroonians were abducted from the Maki and Mada villages in the northern part of the country.
Many of the kidnapped were children and women.
Boko Haram militants have been embarking on various deadly operations in which hundreds have been abducted mainly in north-eastern Nigeria while thousands have lost their lives.
