A former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority(NPA) has described as unjustifable, the Authority’s decision to maintain fuel prices in its latest price review.
The NPA reviewed fuel prices in 2014 by 10 percent however in its latest price review, it maintained the current fuel prices.
Commenting on the development on Eyewitness News, Mr. John Attafuah described the decision as unfortunate, adding that the decision might destroy confidence of Ghanaians in the NPA.
“…if they are not careful next time when there is anything, people are not going to take them serious and it is important that as an institutition of state we establish some credibility and carry the people along with us because in hard times when the tide turns it may be very difficult and it will impact on all of us.”
[contextly_sidebar id=”1zhqRE6IbsjxTFKqX8YHaT0zufhpWauC”]Mr. Attafuah further noted that Ghanaians might be compelled to resort to the court to compel the NPA to reduce fuel prices.
“If we need to challenge the case in court …I think that is an option that is fairly legitimate as far as I am concerned.“The NPA does not impose taxes but right now what is happening is that the authority is imposing a tax on Ghanaians,”he said.
In a related development, President Mahama has directed Finance Minister to review government’s oil revenue projections in 2015.
“His Excellency has directed and we are doing an analysis which will go to cabinet and cabinet will take a decision on the impact on the crude oil prices… if it requires that we make changes government will not hesitate,” he stated.
