One of the major development challenges affecting the socio-economic development of people in the Yendi Municipality is access to clean drinking water.

At some villages in the Yendi Municipality, people drink from the same source with animals.

It is against this backdrop government is taking steps to expand the Yendi water supply chain.

According to President John Dramani Mahama, government will give the people of the Yendi Municipality their fair share of national development.

“Here in Yendi as you can see major projects are taking place including the construction of a modern lorry park, a sixty room multi-purpose commercial centre and the construction of a new pharmacy block for the Yendi Hospital, this I am told has been completed and in addition there are several school blocks coming up and small town water systems which have been completed in Gbungbaliga and Dundong.”

He stated, “We have also completed the design for the expansion of the Yendi water supply system and it is my hope that when this expansion of the water system is done it will provide enough water for the Yendi Municipality and the surrounding towns.”

He was speaking in Yendi on the occasion of this year’s Damba festival jointly celebrated by the Abudu and Andani royals in Dagbon.

President Mahama stressed the need for total peace and reconciliation in the Dagbon Traditional Area.
