Pressure group, Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas in Ghana is asking government to reduce electricity tariffs in the country.
[contextly_sidebar id=”nZZKMkLTC08OeJUKG5bAMGxteIJdoqUh”]This they say is because of the reduction in crude oil prices in the international market.
According to the group, about 49 percent of the country’s energy is from gas and crude oil sources insisting that electricity tariff must reflect the change in price of crude oil.
“With the 60% reduction in crude prices, consumers should enjoy at least 20% reduction in tariffs,” Dr Steve Manteaw, Chairman of the group stated.
A press release signed by Dr Steve Manteaw, said they are also disappointed at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) for failing to call for a reduction in the tariffs.

“It is unfortunate that our regulatory agencies have allowed their actions to be politically determined and to largely favour the utility companies,” the release stated.
The group further called on “pressure groups, NGOs, faith-based organizations, organized labour, and Ghanaians ” to demand for a reduction in electricity tariffs.
