The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied hosting a fund raising dinner on the day jailed cocaine courier, Nayele Ametefe was arrested in the United Kingdom (UK).

[contextly_sidebar id=”73t4nDW8FDvskHaF061vMlwWvgyqgY1J”]The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia during a press conference on Wednesday accused the NPP of masterminding Nayele’s trip to the UK with the aim of hosting her at their fund raising ceremony.

Asiedu Nketia said because Nayele’s trip coincided with the NPP’s fund-raising ceremony, he concluded that the NPP was complicit in the cocaine brouhaha.

“I would want to find how much was raised by NPP during the event after Nayele’s arrest; and whether they met their proposed target for the fund-raising,” he said.

But speaking on the Eyewitness News, Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the NPP insisted that “the NPP has had no fund raising dinner at the time Nayele Ametefe was arrested.”

“In any case, if the NPP was arranging for Nayele to attend a fund raising dinner, was it the NPP that passed her through the VVIP? Put cocaine in her hand luggage, and had her come to Heathrow Airport? It’s a joke,” he added.

Nana Akomea said the issue at hand “is a very serious matter.” adding that “today it is the cocaine that has been carried through the VVIP undetected unto an aircraft, tomorrow it could be a bomb that will cause death so its not a matter that should be trifled with like Asiedu Nketia is saying.”

Meanwhile,  the NPP had earlier accused the NDC of being complicit in the cocaine brouhaha.
