The Wa Police have mounted a search for a woman who dumped her newly born baby at a refuse dump at Sandamuni.
The incident happened on Tuesday at about 6:30pm when some children reportedly spotted the lifeless baby wrapped in a polyethylene bag in the refuse container on their way to use a nearby KVIP.
The assemblyman of the area, Rashid Abdul-Rahaman, confirmed this to Citi News said “I received a call from a concerned citizen who told me someone came and dumped a baby here,so I rushed here and upon seeing things for myself , I called the police.”
The Wa Municipal Police Commander, DSP Stephen Boi Tetteh said that his men will investigate the matter to ensure the mother of the baby is arrested.
“We are yet to unravel whether it was a still birth or someone came to dump it here. I can tell you that we will investigate thoroughly into the matter to apprehend anyone behind this act” DSP Boi Tetteh assured.
He advised residents in the area to volunteer information to the police.
Meanwhile the police have conveyed the body for proper disposal.
