The Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF) has expressed confidence that the decision by President John Mahama to suspend the Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) will restore confidence in the country’s judicial system.
Speaking Eyewitness News, the spokesperson for the group, Richard Nyamah applauded the President’s efforts, saying it will serve as the “beginning of good things.”
[contextly_sidebar id=”BAYH5tYH0yY8h6SHUhiTHAmoEPN6hqI1″]“This is restoring confidence in our judicial system and I am beginning to hope that the fight against corruption at least is beginning to be lighted and at the end of the day it is not a lost course,” he added.
Mr Nyamah petitioned the President to impeach the Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms. Lauretta Lamptey.
“As part of the petition, we thought that she continuing to be in office would one way or the other affect the outcome of the case, because if I had to call on witnesses that may be working directly under her could affect my case,” he said.
Nyamah expressed his appreciation to the Judicial Council and the President for the move taken.
“We say thank you to the Judicial Council for appropriately advising the President to take this decision as it is the beginning of good thing to come this year and I want to thank the President for taking up this bold step. Now I am 100 percent convinced that I will be getting a fair hearing in this matter,” he said.
Mr Nyamah therefore urged the President to take similar decisions on other cases of corruption.
“I would want the President not to just stop at this and use it as an example; there are other big cases that are available that people are crying over like the GYEEDA, SADA, Isofotons etc. If he takes such bold decisions in these cases I am sure we will all celebrate him,” he added.
