More mobile subscribers flee to Vodafone & Airtel

airtellVodafone gained the most subscribers in the latest National Communications Authority (NCA)’s mobile voice subscription report for January 2014.

Vodafone which is the second largest mobile operator in Ghana gained 196,063 subscribers to a total 6,244,855 in January 2014.

Its market share is now 21.97%.

Airtel was the second largest gainer.

It gained 113,148 new mobile voice subscribers to a total 3,508,411 as at the end of January, 2014 increasing its market share to 12.35%.

The biggest telecom operator in the country MTN was the third largest gainer.

It gained 39,082 new subscribers to a total of 12,968,610 subscribers representing 45.63% of mobile voice market share.

The third largest telecom operator Tigo gained only 37,348 new mobile voice subscribers as at January 2014 it had a total of 4,058,573 subscribers and 14.28% of market share.

Expresso mobile voice subscription increased by over 35 to a total 168,998 representing 0.59% of market share.

However, mobile voice subscription on GLO reduced to 1,470,202 subscribers with resulting loss of market share to 5.17%.
