A former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has charged the “disloyal” Black Stars to be “committed” and focus on winning the impending Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

The fealty of the Black Stars has been an issue of national debate since a barrage of scandals rocked the team’s camp during the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Before departing for training camp in Spain ahead of the AFCON, reports that the team was unhappy with the Sports Ministry for imposing a new bonus package of $5,000 without consulting them.

The outspoken former FA boss is however of the opinion that the team is capable of breaking the 34 year barren trophy spell on the continent if they devote themselves and their talents to the nation.

“Lately I personally have a feeling that they are not really committed but if they get committed during the tournament then they should be able to win the cup.

“We are in a group that is equally very powerful so they have to work really hard  and if they are able to come out with wonderful performances and put all the skills that they have as the Black Stars together then we might have some hope of getting close to the finals,” he told Citi Sports.

The Black Stars themselves are scheduled to wrap up their tournament preparations against German club Freiburg on January 14 before flying out to Equatorial Guinea.

Avram Grant’s side secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Portuguese second tier side Olhanense before being held to a 1-1 draw by SC Cambuur last Thursday.
