President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan believes his administration has fought corruption more than past administrations in the country.

He made the comments in a campaign speech at Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Nigeria.

“We are fighting corruption through Information Communication Technology,ICT. Our method is technology driven. We have changed the way we do government businesses. The fertiliser distribution scheme, which go directly to farmers is a key example.

“We have also modernised the system of salary disbursement through technology. This is one of the ways we are fighting corruption in the system. You do not fight it by locking people in Kirikiri and closing down their businesses. That is why the economy collapsed under Buhari’s watch.

The Vanguard reported that the South East flag- off rally attracted a large crowd of party supporters from the five south east states of Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi States.

The President, reportedly criticised the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ; [a social-democratic political party in Nigeria seeking to wrest power from the ruling government] Gen Muhammadu Buhari saying that the former head of state wanted power to throw people into jail as was the case in 1983.

Jonathan said his administration had upgraded the Akanu-Ibiam airport to an international status.

Jonathan has come under intense criticism from his political opponents for what they term his corrupt practices since he became President of the country.

Nigeria’s former President, Obansanjo recently accused  Goodluck Jonathan of squandering $25 billion crude oil savings left behind by his administration.

He described Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as full of impunity.

The latter has however denied the allegation.
