The Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur has issued warning to perpetrators involved in the Alavanyo and Nkonya violence to immediately stop or face government’s wrath.
[contextly_sidebar id=”AvkihgIWpizBJW2wwJ3UGqGNlAXc1V8O”]Alavanyo and Nkonya have been involved in a bloody conflict over a disputed land case for decades, despite several attempts by government, religious leaders and other groups to resolve the violence peacefully.
In December last year, there were renewed clashes following gunshots that left one person dead.
The Vice President speaking in the Volta Region, where he met the chiefs and people said the violence must end to ensure development and progress in the area.
“What am hearing today is some people are wants this conflict to continue so that they can make money out of it but we need to bring it to an end so that we can make progress as a people,” he said.
According to the Vice President the country’s it is wrong for communities to fight against one another stating “civil wars or conflicts cannot have a winner in a modern nation state because the state will not allow one set of people in a community to subdue through the force of arms.”
“I am not expecting one side to win a war against another side when we have a state called Ghana that aims to protect its entire people” he stressed.
A similar call was made by the clergy in the region, who charged the two feuding factions in the townships to embrace peace especially in this year.
