Weija robbery suspect arrested in Asamankese

The police in the Eastern Region have arrested one of the four robbers who escaped after shooting a police officer at Weija in Accra.

A robbery incident which occurred at the West Hills Mall on Wednesday led to the death of Prince Akatah, a police officer.

Two of the robbers were killed in the fire exchange, six others were arrested, and the other four escaped with gunshot wounds.

The Eastern Regional Police Command, ACP James Azumah Abass told Graphic.com.gh that the Akyem-Oda Police Station had information that a man with gun wounds in the genitals was receiving treatment at a herbal centre at Kwashie near Asamankese.

He said they were again informed that the suspect was also selling stolen cocoa to the Produce Buying Company (PBC) to defray the cost of his treatment.

He indicated that after arresting the suspect, he confessed being part of the robbery that happened at Weija adding that the suspect is currently receiving treatment at the Akyem-Oda Government Hospital and would be transferred to the Police Headquarters for further investigations.

The Police had earlier appealed to the public to volunteer information that will aid them apprehend the robbers.
