A former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Ayikoi Otoo has told Citi News, it will not be necessary for CHRAJ Boss, Lauretta Vivian Lamptey to step aside while investigations into allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation is underway.

The five member Chief Justice Committee set up to investigate the CHRAJ boss begins work today [Friday].

Madam Lamptey has been accused of grievous acts of financial impropriety arising out of her decision to stay in an expensive hotel for months while her official residence was under construction.

She has also been accused of spending an amount of $105,000 on her official foreign trips within two years.

Many have called on her to step aside as investigations begin, however Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo believes that will not be necessary.

“If already you have a prima facie case against her, it means that you have the evidence that you want to confront her, so what is the point of asking her to step aside.?”

Calls for CHRAJ Boss to resign premature

This is not the first time the legal practitioner has expressed concerns over calls for the CHRAJ Boss to step aside.

In 2014, Ayikoi Otoo, downplayed calls for Lauretta’s resignation, describing such calls as premature.

Ayikoi Otoo suggested that the processes leading to her impeachment should be slowed down to ensure that justice is served.

“Why don’t we take our time to put everything in order? We should not be seen to be engaging in exercises of futility,” he insisted.
