The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lashed out at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo, over his claims that Ghana’s voter’s register lacks credibility.

The NPP Presidential Candidate has said the nation’s current voters’ register is over bloated and insists an audit of the register before the next election.

The NDC however, argues that the claims are untenable.

“Since independence this has been the most accurate register, no register can be claimed to be perfect because in statistics, there is always some margin of error, but as far as we are concerned this has been the most accurate register for any election in Ghana.”

“At least this biometric technology is the latest technology that deals with the accuracy of compilation of any human data anywhere,” he insisted.

The party’s General Secretary however, disclosed that “the register had gone through the scrutiny of the supreme court and there were no adverse findings about the accuracy of the voters register during the supreme court hearings”

According to him the NPP is only trying to find faults in this new system, adding, “NPP is creating the impression that at the supreme court the voters register was badly flawed and so on and they aren’t going to be satisfied with any electoral register unless that register is glutted in its favor,” he argued.

Mr Nketia however, urged citizens to be proud of the country’s electoral system instead of comparing to other African countries

“We should be proud that our electoral system is superior to all others on the African continent, so we should not go down and be comparing our performance with other countries,” he advised.
