The leadership of the General Transport and Chemical Workers Union of Ghana is confident MODEC-Ghana, a private oil company working on Ghana’s FPSO vessel on the Jubilee oil field will reinstate all 27 workers the company dismissed weeks ago.
MODEC Ghana on October 29, 2014 dismissed about 27 local workers after they embarked on a strike to protest poor working conditions.
Members of the General Transport and Chemical Workers Union of Ghana threatened an industrial action against MODEC, if it fails to fully reinstate their members.
[contextly_sidebar id=”IHwiqmw5o0z5AEFnLSDloefsM8OT1bFk”]The Vice Chairman of the Union, Francis Sallah however, told Citi News, a meeting with the management of MODEC indicated that all 27 were going to be reinstated.
“Management wrote to us, they responded to our letter yesterday and they indicated that MOUs that we signed is still being respected.”
“At the time when the incident happened they had to bring in some foreign nationals including Ghanaians to make sure that work continues so as we speak, they are still making preparations to ensure that the guys return to the vessel,”he explained.
Another restructuring exercise embarked by MODEC on Monday saw the dismissal of about 27 persons from its catering department.
MODEC explained that the decision is line with an ongoing restructuring exercise aimed at improving their operations.
Meanwhile, MODEC has warned that more workers will be laid off in 2015.
